Veneers and Facings
A veneer is a laboratory-made structure that fits over a prepared surface on the outer surface of a tooth. That prepared surface is made by removing 1mm or more of the face of the tooth. The action is irreversible
Facings are constructed from materials added to the outer surfaces of teeth without a significant tooth substance being removed and are therefore in the main reversible.

They can be used for hiding blemishes on a tooth surface, disguising a 'blackened' tooth, re-aligning a tooth surface with its neighbour, restoring mis-shapen teeth - and lots of other things. They could also be used for temporarily adjusting the appearance of one or more teeth to 'see if a person would like that 'look' permanently before risking irrevesrsible alteration of some teeth.
